ANTS are a menace to an invert hobbyist. They attack at will and will leave only once they've consumed everything they can.

A lot of friends in the hobby have narrated how their feeders and their PETS got killed by these ants. Here are some tips for new hobbyists who are having problems with the ANTS.

OPTION 1 - Petroleum jelly

Some hobbyists advise to put petroleum jelly around the enclosures to prevent ANTS from walking up from the ground.

EFFECTIVE? YES
DOWNSIDE - MESSY. Sometimes you would accidentally put your hands on the jelly when you need to transfer your T. In time, dust and dirt would also cling to the jelly.

OPTION 2 - Terro ant killers (poison)

Others resort to putting ant baits and ant killers in powder and liquid form. You can buy them from hardware stores in the mall like ACE, HANDYMAND, DIY SHOP, etc.

EFFECTIVE? NOT COMPLETELY. You would have to attract the ants in order to kill them. With this, you sometimes leave behind areas where ants can attack.
DOWNSIDE - If you have children who accidentally touch the areas where you applied the ant killer, DISASTER is in the air.

OPTION 3 - Oil and Water

This is what I use. Ts and feeders are placed on racks and the feet of these racks are placed inside empty plastic cups (I use empty Nissin's noodles cups). These cups are then filled with water and oil. I use engine oil instead of cooking oil. The cooking oil solidifies whenever its cold and so the ants can still crawl on them. Why not plain water? because it evaporates and you then would have to refill every now and then. Plus water filled cups become breeding places for mosquitoes.

EFFECTIVE? very much
DOWNSIDE - A bit costly if you have many racks like I do. But its worth the investment in order to save your precious pets.

OVER-ALL RECOMMENDATION

I recommend you use a combination of all three. When you see an area where ants proliferate, put the ant bait in so you could (or wish you could) obliterate the entire colony.

HOPE THESE HELP. THANKS FOR VISITING MY SITE.
